What is the "Pig Pilot Program"?
Compost Colorado's mission has been to keep food waste out of landfills. We're now taking it one step further by bringing your food scraps DIRECT to the farm to be fed to pigs that are working the land in regenerative agricultural systems.
What is "regenerative agricutlure"?
Regenerative agriculture works with Nature's natural systems, utilizing animals (for turning soil, grazing, and fertility) and planting native crops to bring an ecosystem back into balance. Through the implementation of swales, silvopastures, and cover-crop planting, these methods sequester carbon, sink water, and bring barren soil back to life!
Where are the pigs?!
We are very proud to partner with Yellow Barn Farm (YBF) and Drylands Agroecology Research (DAR) to pilot our pig program, delivering food scraps to feed DAR's pigs working the land at YBF.
Interested in seeing the pigs at work? Join the next Farm Hop tour (Aug 17) of both Elk Run Farm and Yellow Barn Farm!
